Most of the general stores sell tobacco related products along with chocolates, biscuits, wafers and other food items. Usually, this attracts school-going children who are lured towards tobacco-related products and get addicted to it.

Considering this fact, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has decided to put a ban on selling these products at general stores and the order has been given to other states, confirmed Dr. Pallavi Darade, Commissioner, FDA.

Food inspectors of FDA have been given permission to take instant action against shopkeepers for selling tobacco-related products along with food items. 

Darade clarified that Maharashtra has become the first state who is putting a ban on selling tobacco and tobacco-related products at general stores.
