Indian captain Virat Kohli has stepped into a minefield of criticism and hate messages after the 30-year-old cricketer asked a fan to leave the country for liking foreign cricketers more than Indian players. While the video has received criticism on social media, now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also expressed their disappointment over the skipper’s comment.

In the video, Virat Kohli is seen responding to the fan who said that he finds Kohli overrated and he loves watching English and Australian batsmen. To which Kohli had said,

“Okay, I don’t think you should live in India then... you should go and live somewhere else no. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me but I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right.”

In response to this, BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary said that they (BCCI) value the spirit of cricket and respect the fans’ choices. Explaining his point, he said that he loved watching Sunil Gavaskar bat whereas, on the other hand, he also liked watching Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, and Viv Richards. Also, he liked Sachin, Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman along with Mark Waugh, Brian Lara.
