A recent announced made by the state government states that the teacher qualification examination for 2021 will be held in Maharashtra after a gap of two years. The Entrance Eligibility Test (TET) for Class I to VIII teachers will be held from September 15 to December 31., 2021.

As per reports, the exam was earlier held in 2018-19, but not held in 2019 due to Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and due to the outbreak of coronavirus in 2020. The state government was being asked to give an approval for the Teacher Eligibility Test this year and keeping the same in mind, officials from the government have announced the dates for the Teacher Eligibility Test.

About seven to eight lakh teachers give TET every year and it is estimated that about one million teachers will take the exam in next two years. Meanwhile, there are 20,000 to 25,000 vacancies for primary teachers in the state. To qualify for the same, candidates must have passed TET for recruitment to these posts.

Two papers of TET are to be given by the candidates and the examination in the state is organized by Maharashtra State Examination Council. This  has been made compulsory for recruitment of teachers from  classes 1-8, and the test is conducted in two groups, for class 1-5 and 6-8 respectively. In order to give the first examination of TET, it is necessary for the candidates to have passed two years diploma in pedagogy. Apart from that, candidates who have passed D.Ed for the second set of examinations must have passed the degree in the subject of pedagogy.

Questions on Child Development and Pedagogy, Marathi and English Language, Mathematics are asked in first examination, whereas questions based on the above subjects along with social sciences are asked in the second paper.

Candidates who get more than 60 per cent marks in TET exam are qualified and the score for the reserved category candidates has been fixed at 55 per cent. The application process will soon be updated on Maharashtra State Examination Council's website along with the detailed schedule.
