Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday rejected the speculations saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not trying to topple the Uddhav Thackeray government. The senior BJP leader further stated that the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will fall due to its own burden.

While talking to reporters in a virtual press conference, Fadnavis said that his party wants to pressurise the state government here to handle the coronavirus outbreak and alleged that the Maharashtra government was not spending financial aid properly.

Earlier on Monday, BJP MP Narayan Rane met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state as the Uddhav Thackeray government has failed to tackle the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Reacting to this, Fadnavis distanced the BJP from the demands made by Rane and rejected speculations that the opposition was trying to destabilise the government in Maharashtra and was not in a hurry to form the government.

“We are not trying to topple the government. Our focus is to fight the COVID-19 crisis in the state. We are not in a hurry to form the government but the BJP wants to pressurise the government in the fight against COVID-19. This government will due to its own burden and lack of coordination,” Devendra Fadnavis asserted.

Moreover, Fadnavis said that Subramanian Swamy and Narayan Rane have demanded imposition of President’s rule in Maharashtra but the BJP has not involved in this.

Earlier, the leaders from the opposition and the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government lined up at Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor which has raised eyebrows in the political circle. Some are speculating instability in the Uddhav Thackeray government.

However, Sanjay Raut on Tuesday also refuted such speculations saying that the MVA government was strong and stable while informing that NCP chief Sharad Pawar met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree and held discussions for an hour and a half.
