After a speedboat toppled in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a probe into the matter. Terming the incident as “serious”, CM Fadnavis also announced ₹5 lakh compensation for one person who died in the incident. 

On Wednesday, a boat carrying 25 people including Shiv Smarak Samiti’s activists and journalists, toppled in the sea. While rescue boats saved every other person, Siddhesh Pawar (35) died in the incident. After almost three hours of the search operation, Pawar’s body was found around 8:00 PM.

It has been informed that there was no safety measure taken before inviting so many people for the event. Maharashtra government organised the event for laying the foundation stone of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial's construction work in Mumbai’s Arabian Sea. The reclamation work for the memorial started on October 24 after being delayed for nearly six months.

Peasants and Workers Party of India (Bharatiya Shetkari Kamgar Paksha) leader Jayant Prabhakar Patil said that the incident happened due to the chaos. With more people on the boat than its capacity, the driver was also not aware of the danger on the way and this is why the boat collided with a rock.
