A day after Rahul Gandhi’s remarks fuelled speculations that all is not okay in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, the former Congress President on Wednesday called up Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over the phone and assured him support.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi said that Congress was only supporting the government in Maharashtra and was not a key-player. As this happened, the leaders from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress jumped in to defend Gandhi’s remarks.

However, Rahul Gandhi spoke to Uddhav Thackeray to clear the confusion and offered complete support of his party to the MVA government. According to sources, the Congress leader told Thackeray that his statement was taken out of context.

During his conversation with Thackeray, Gandhi maintained that Maharastra was an important state and due attention should be given to the state in order to fight the COVID-19 outbreak. Congress fully supports every decision of the MVA government, he said.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister also assured Gandhi that Congress will be given equal importance in decision making and functioning of the MVA government.

Earlier, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut stated that the coalition government in Maharashtra had no conflict and was stable. Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat also stated that there was good coordination between all three parties in the MVA.

Later in the day, the MVA minister held meetings at Chief Minister’s official residence ‘Varsha’ to discuss the current COVID-19 situation and government’s preparedness for the same. However, Uddhav Thackeray wasn’t present in the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the same was attended by senior MVA ministers including Jayant Patil, Balasaheb Thorat, Anil Parab, Subhash Desai and others. Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal were also present in the meeting.

In the meeting, the officials and ministers discussed the strategy for providing gradual lockdown relaxation in red zones after May 31 - end of lockdown 4.0.
