Congress leader Sachin Sawant has levelled serious allegations against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in connection with the Palghar ‘mob lynching’ incident. Sawant, who is the general secretary of Congress’ state-unit, alleged that majority of the people arrested were the members of the BJP.

Moreover, the Congress leader lashed out at BJP for giving a communal angle to the Palghar incident where three men including two Sadhus and their driver were killed by an angry mob. Sawant said that BJP should be ashamed for communalising the incident and playing politics over the same.

The three men who were killed have been identified as Sushil Giri Maharaj (35), Chikane Maharaj Kalpavrikshgiri (70) and Nilesh Telgane (35). They were travelling towards Surat to attend the funeral of common acquaintance and were killed by the mob on suspicion that they were child-kidnappers and organ harvesters. The incident happened in Gadchinchale village in Palghar district of Maharashtra.

“For the last 10 years, the BJP has a stronghold in the Gadchinchale village where the incident took place. The Grampanchayat is also occupied by the BJP and Chitra Chaudhary of the party is the ‘Sarpanch’. Most of the people arrested are from the BJP,” Sachin Sawant tweeted earlier.

The Congress leader further informed that there was also a rumour that some Muslims dress up in disguise and harvest organs. “Who is spreading such rumours? This should also be investigated,” Sawant said.

BJP playing communal politics over the Palghar issue is shameful. “Those who could not stop such incidents while being in power for five years are playing politics over the incident,” Sawant said.

The Congress leader further attacked the media and BJP for “concealing truth” in the Palghar incident while stating that there are no Muslims in Gadchinchale and all are Adivasis.

On Monday afternoon, Maharashtra Chief Minister informed that 110 people involved in the mob lynching of three men in Palghar have been arrested. Of the 110 people, 101 have been sent in police custody till April 30 while other nine have been sent to juvenile homes.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has already announced a high-level inquiry into the Palghar incident. Meanwhile, two police officers from Kasa police station in Palghar district have been suspended for alleged negligence on duty.
