Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take custody of DHFL promoters Wadhawans who are accused in the Yes Bank fraud case.

Deshmukh wrote to CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) informing them that the quarantine period of the Wadhawan brothers - Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan - was ending at 2:00 PM on April 22.

The Wadhawan family and their friends, consisting of 23 members, were quarantined at an institutional facility for 14-days and have been asked to stay at their home in Mahabaleshwar from where they were detained on April 9.

Earlier, the Wadhawan family and their friends got special permission from Principal Secretary (Home) Amitabh Gupta to travel from Khandala to Mahabaleshwar amid the nationwide lockdown.

The Mahabaleshwar Police later found 23 people in a farmhouse and registered an FIR for violating lockdown rules amid the coronavirus outbreak. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government sent Gupta on compulsory leave and is probing the role of the IPS officer in the Wadhawan family controversy.

The Wadhawan brothers were absconding ever since the case has been registered against him on March 7 which promoted the CBI to issue a non-bailable warrant against them from a special court.

However, both the brothers issued a statement via their legal firm earlier which said that they were not absconding claiming that they had been in correspondence with the ED and CBI. The Wadhawan brother, in their statement, said that they had given reasons for not joining the probe being carried out by ED and CBI.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Home Minister today shared the list of 101 people who were arrested in connection with the Palghar mob lynching incident while expressing that none of the arrested accused is a Muslim. In this case, the police have arrested 110 people involved in the mob lynching. Of the 110 people, 101 have been sent in police custody till April 30 while other nine have been sent to juvenile homes.
