Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met youth from the Maratha community who travelled on foot for nearly 580 kilometres. A couple of young people travelled from Umarga which is a town in the Osmanabad district to meet the Chief Minister.

The Maharashtra government is facing a lot of heat from the Maratha community after the Supreme Court imposed an interim stay on the implementation of Maratha reservation. On this occasion, Thackeray said that the state government is fighting with all its might in the apex court to lift the stay on Maratha quota.

During his meeting with the group of youngsters, the Chief Minister assured them that the efforts were being made by the state government regarding the reservation. “The government is yours and is committed to protecting your rights,” Thackeray added.

Balasaheb Mane, Pankaj Jagtap, Akshay Gaikwad, Saheb Jadhav, Nitin Jadhav and Vishwajeet Chunge from Umarga taluka travelled 580 km to demand the interim stay on the Maratha reservation be lifted. It took them 13 days to reach Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the Uddhav Thackeray government recently filed an application before the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to immediately set up a constitutional bench to facilitate a final decision on the Maratha reservation issue.

This is the second time the Maharashtra government has requested that a larger bench be formed to hear the matter. Earlier, the Maharashtra government had filed a vacation application seeking the cancellation of the interim stay on Maratha quota.

The application was filed by advocate Sachin Patil on behalf of the government. The Maharashtra government has urged the Supreme Court to withdraw the stay imposed on the implementation of Maratha reservation.
