Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to raise the height of the proposed statue of Dalit icon BR Ambedkar at the Indus Mills compound in Mumbai. 

While addressing a press conference, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the height of the Ambedkar memorial will be raised to 450 feet – the height of the statue will be 350 feet and the collective height of the memorial including pedestal will be 450 feet. 

The cabinet has approved the proposal to increase the height of the Ambedkar statue and pedestal from 350 to 450 feet,” Ajit Pawar said.

The Deputy CM further informed that the project will be completed in the coming two years while stating that the proposed structure includes an auditorium, a library and a research centre.

Pawar, who is also Maharashtra Finance Minister, also talked about the “Mumbai Eye” project similar to the London Eye. If there are no CRZ issues, the work for Mumbai Eye will also be initiated in the coming time.
