Ahead of Maharashtra Elections which are due next year, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced seventh pay commission for Maharashtra government employees. The decision was taken in a meeting during the presence of various government officers and employees’ association.

The benefits of seventh pay commission, including the due payment of dearness allowance for last 14 months, will be provided to lakhs of government employees from January 2019. For this, the state government has appointed a committee under the leadership of P.K. Bakshi.

Earlier in the sixth pay commission, many government officials and employees had a problem with the salaries they were being provided. However, Bakshi committee has been given the task to resolve the issue. “This work is in its final phase and we will soon submit the report to the government,” Bakshi informed CM Fadnavis.

The Chief Minister informed that ₹4,800 crore have been allocated for the implementation of Pay Commission in the budget. “The arrears of 7th Pay Commission will be given retrospective from January 2016,” said CM Fadnavis.

This decision comes after several unions including Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Federation, State Class Four Employees Association, and State Employees Organisation warned to go on a three-day strike from August 7 pressing their demands for pay hike.
