Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Eknath Shinde tests positive for COVID-19

Shinde, senior Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister for Urban Development and Public Works, is the fourth minister to be tested positive for COVID-19 within a week.

Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde has been tested positive for the coronavirus, he informed on Thursday. Taking to Twitter, Shinde appealed those who came in close contact with him to get themselves tested for COVID-19. 

“Yesterday, I underwent the test for COVID-19 and it came back positive. With all your blessings, I am fine. Everyone who has come in contact with me in the last few days should take proper care and get themselves tested for COVID,” Shinde tweeted in Marathi. 

Shinde, senior Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister for Urban Development and Public Works, is the fourth minister to be tested positive for COVID-19 within a week. Recently, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad also tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Since Friday, Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut, State Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif and Minister of State (MoS) Water Resource Bacchu Kadu have also tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Till now, 14 cabinet ministers in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government have tested positive for the coronavirus and nine have recovered from it.

Earlier, Jitendra Awhad, Ashok Chavan, Dhananjay Munde, Aslam Shaikh, Balasaheb Patil, Sanjay Bansode, Sunil Kedar, Abdul Sattar and Vishwajit Kadam from the Uddhav Thackeray cabinet have tested positive for the coronavirus.
