The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has reached a consensus on the fourth candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections which are scheduled to happen on March 26.

NCP has nominated Fauzia Khan for Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra who will get elected on the surplus votes of Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP itself. The last day of filing the nomination was today – March 13.

The Rajya Sabha elections will be held on seven seats in Maharashtra. NCP has claimed two seats while Congress and Shiv Sena have settled for one seat each.

Meanwhile, BJP being the first largest party with 105 MLAs has nominated three people for the Rajya Sabha polls. The BJP also enjoys the support of nine other MLAs in the Maharashtra legislature.

BJP has nominated Udyanraje Bhosale, Ramdas Athawale and Bhagwat Karad for Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra while sidelining the senior leaders including Eknath Khadse and Pankaja Munde. The three nominations made by the BJP are likely to get elected unopposed.

NCP, on the other hand, is the only ally in the MVA government to have nominated two leaders including party chief Sharad Pawar and Fauzia Khan. Sharad Pawar filed his nomination on Wednesday.

Shiv Sena on Thursday nominated party deputy leader Priyanka Chaturvedi for Rajya Sabha. Chaturvedi, who joined Shiv Sena before Lok Sabha elections last year, is yet to file nomination. The last date to file nomination is March 13.

Seven Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra are scheduled to go to the polls. Of the seven seats, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government seems confident of winning on four seats.

Every party is nominating their respective candidates for the Rajya Sabha and every nominee requires 37 votes in the assembly.
